There’s a Message in My Tea

There’s a Message in My Tea

One way that we can be sure God is speaking to us is when it forces us to dig deeper into learning about ourselves, creates a layer of learning more about Him, or strengthens our relationship with Him. Lately, God has been creating scenarios for me where I have to exercise the wisdom He gives me over acting on pure emotions. (Who doesn’t struggle with this though, really?) If I understand 99% of a situation, that last 1% is enough gasoline to burn the whole neighborhood down…

It’s been a life long work in progress for me to act on truth and facts rather than emotions, but sometimes I still ride that 1% bareback into the hazy sunset of burnt bridges, ruined relationships, and my own self-inflicted destruction. After a long time of setting fires, some that I was able to put out and others not so much, I finally came clean to God about it. I said, “I know what you’ve been telling me… You give me ALL this wisdom, and I’m so thankful… then the wind blows the wrong way, and I make one teeny, tiny spark and ruin all of it. I have to stop; I know.”

That night, after my realization and confession, I had a dream. In this dream, I held in my hand my favorite clear mug, a fresh, hot cup of tea like I always make it— tension tamer with Freedom Farms honey, and a splash of french vanilla creamer. In real life, it smells and tastes like sugary deliciousness! I lifted it to my mouth and took a sip… as I lowered it, I realized there was big, black, dead fly floating in the liquid! Disgusted, I ran to my sink and dumped it out, only to discover about 15-20 dead flies were stuck to the bottom of the settled honey. It was truly gross. Waking up suddenly, I decided to research my dream, which led me to this Bible verse:

“As dead flies cause even a bottle of perfume to stink, so a little foolishness spoils great wisdom and honor.” Ecclesiastes 10:1

God had confirmed my revelation for me through scripture! This Biblical story was new to me. I then read the entire book of Ecclesiastes, which led to a deeper understanding of life’s purpose amidst the mundane routine, relationships, and even family. (Dreams are common occurrences for me, but there’s a clear distinction between the ones that are from God and the ones from my own brain. Have you ever experienced profound dreams like this? Take the time to reflect on them and research their Biblical meanings!)

One of the greatest gifts that God can give us is wisdom because, even though wisdom is a deep understanding, it’s tied to knowledge, which is the lesser, human quality of our physical limits. God uses wisdom to join the gap between flimsy, worldly things we “know,” and the vast mysteries of the world beyond. Accepting the wisdom that God bestows upon us brings us clarity and confidence in our choices and beliefs. Wisdom is the gatekeeper of change because wisdom cancels fear… and with fear removed, you’re finally able to see with your spiritual eyes, rather than your worldly eyes. Maybe you will dream about it tonight.
